Naming 3d solids
describing solids using faces, edges and vertices
making/predicting nets
Nets Practice Activity:
(You must do this as well as IXL before getting checked!)
Part 1:
A. Ask your teacher for one of the Net Printouts.
B. Try to guess what solid the net will make and write your prediction on top of the net. Show your teacher your prediction.
C. Cut out the net, using the tabs to glue the net together into a 3D Solid.
D. Find a buddy to show your net to, and reflect on whether your prediction was correct or not.
E. Repeat this with one more net (If you did a prism before, do a pyramid this time). Be prepared to show your nets to the teacher when you are ready to get checked.
Part 2:
A: Choose a wooden solid from the bin.
B: Create a net on a piece of scrap paper for this solid. Remember that the faces need to be connected on the net if they are connected on the solid!
C: Put the solid back in the bin, and find a buddy to switch nets with. Each of you will first write a prediction of what solid the net will become, then cut out and tape together the net.
D: Repeat this process with another solid (If you did a prism/pyramid before, choose the other one this time!) and a different buddy. Be prepared to show your nets to the teacher when you are ready to get checked.
